Porsche has introduced the first production hybrid version of its iconic 911 sports car, the 2025 911 Carrera GTS hybrid, with a starting price of $164,900. This move reflects the automotive industry’s shift towards electrified vehicles and tightening fuel economy standards. The 911 Carrera GTS hybrid is the result of extensive testing and development, aimed at maintaining the vehicle’s renowned driving dynamics while significantly enhancing performance.

The 911 Carrera GTS hybrid accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and can reach a top track speed of 194 mph, powered by a newly developed 3.6-liter boxer hybrid engine producing 532 horsepower and 449 foot-pounds of torque. It is available as a coupe starting at $164,900 and a convertible starting at $178,200, with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Orders for the hybrid models are now open, with deliveries expected to U.S. dealers by the end of 2024.

Porsche is expanding its hybrid vehicle lineup in response to the slower-than-expected adoption of all-electric vehicles, with plans for at least 80% of its vehicles sold globally to be partially or fully electric by 2030. The company’s current electrified lineup includes plug-in hybrid Cayenne and Panamera models, as well as all-electric Taycan models. The 911 has also used hybrid engines in racing, demonstrating Porsche’s commitment to hybrid technology.

In addition to the hybrid model, Porsche introduced an updated lineup of Porsche 911 sports cars for the 2025 model year, featuring exterior and interior design updates, enhanced engine performance, and new standard equipment. The 2025 911 models will begin arriving in U.S. Porsche showrooms in the fall, with prices ranging from about $120,000 to over $241,000 for a 911 GT3 RS. The updates aim to improve overall performance and driver experience.

Porsche’s first-quarter global sales totaled 77,640 vehicles, a decrease of about 4% from the previous year. However, sales of 911 vehicles in the U.S. increased by 30% compared to the first quarter of 2023, indicating strong demand for the iconic sports car. Porsche’s focus on electrification and hybrid technology aligns with industry trends and regulatory standards, ensuring the brand remains competitive and innovative in the evolving automotive landscape.

The introduction of the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS hybrid represents a significant milestone for the iconic sports car, combining hybrid technology with the renowned driving dynamics of the 911. Porsche’s commitment to electrification and hybrid vehicles reflects the industry’s shift towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation, while maintaining the performance and heritage of its vehicles. Customers can expect enhanced performance, efficiency, and driving experience from the new 911 hybrid model, which is poised to become a flagship offering in Porsche’s lineup.
