A top prosecutor with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, Anne Kimball Small, whose husband is a former Biden Department of Justice official, has donated thousands of dollars in support of President Biden’s 2020 campaign. Small previously worked in the Obama administration and is a former general counsel at the Securities and Exchange Commission. She has also served on the board of directors of the NAACP’s Legal Defense Fund, which has been vocal against former President Trump.

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund filed an amicus brief earlier this year calling for the disqualification of Trump from running for president, citing the 14th Amendment. Small has also been vocal about opposing Trump’s First Amendment rights on social media. Small’s husband, Matthew Colangelo, had served in several roles in the Obama administration, including as a Deputy Assistant to President Obama and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council. Colangelo also received payments from the Democratic National Committee for “political consulting” in 2018.

Another prosecutor from Bragg’s office, Susan Hoffinger, who is leading the questioning of adult film actress Stormy Daniels in Trump’s trial, has also donated to President Biden’s campaign in 2020. Rep. Lance Gooden, R-Texas, has criticized the DOJ under President Biden for being a “cesspool of partisanship,” citing the hiring of Colangelo by Bragg as further evidence of politicization in the justice system. Gooden sent a letter to the DOJ and Bragg demanding answers about the handling of Trump’s criminal trials.

Gooden requested a response to his questions by May 24, 2024. The issue has raised concerns about the impartiality of the justice system and the influence of partisan politics in legal proceedings. The ties between the Colangelo family and the Democratic Party, as well as the donations to Democratic politicians and organizations, have sparked further scrutiny. The involvement of prosecutors with clear political affiliations in high-profile cases has raised questions about their ability to conduct fair and unbiased investigations.

The connections between the prosecutors, the Democratic Party, and the targeting of former President Trump have raised concerns about the integrity of the legal system. The donations to Democratic campaigns and organizations, as well as the previous roles in the Obama administration, have led to accusations of partisanship and political bias. The interactions between these prosecutors and top officials in the Biden administration have raised questions about the independence and neutrality of the justice system. The need for transparency and accountability in legal proceedings has become a critical issue in light of these revelations.

The ties between the prosecutors involved in the Trump case and their support for Democratic causes have fueled criticisms of political bias and interference in legal matters. The close connections between these prosecutors and the Biden administration, as well as their donations to Democratic campaigns, have raised concerns about the fairness and objectivity of their investigations. The accusations of partisanship and unconstitutional practices in the handling of Trump’s criminal trials have prompted calls for a review of the decision-making process and the need for greater accountability in the justice system.
