The death toll from the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria exceeds 8,300 people

More than 8,300 people have been killed in the aftermath of devastating earthquakes along the Turkish-Syrian border, officials said.

Turkey’s death toll rose to 5,894, according to Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay.

More than 34,000 people have been injured, according to Oktay.

In addition, about 5,775 buildings collapsed as a result of the earthquakes that occurred in the early hours of yesterday morning.

In neighboring Syria, 2,450 people died and 4,654 others were injured as a result of the earthquake and its aftershocks.
