The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, demanded the speedy delivery of new heavy weapons to Ukraine.
“At this crucial moment in the war, we must provide Ukraine with heavier and more advanced systems, and we must do it faster,” Stoltenberg said, after talks with new German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in Berlin. “The only way to a lasting peace is for it to become clear to Russian President Vladimir.” Putin will not win on the battlefield. Stoltenberg emphasized the need for Ukrainian forces to be able to defeat the Russians, saying: “Not only to survive, but to win, to regain territory and to exist as an independent, sovereign state in Europe.”
On the issue of whether NATO allies will supply combat tanks to Ukraine, Stoltenberg said that talks are still ongoing, expressing confidence that there will be a solution soon.
