The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, said that he intends to visit the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine next week, noting that the situation is still fraught with danger despite the presence of the agency’s experts at the station.
This will be the second time that Grossi has crossed the Ukrainian front line to visit the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, and his first visit was last September, when concerns grew about the possibility of a nuclear accident.
“I decided to travel again to the Zaporizhya Nuclear Power Plant, to see for myself how the situation has developed there since September, and to speak to those who run the facility during these unprecedented and very difficult circumstances,” Grossi said in a statement.
“I remain determined to continue doing everything in my power to help reduce the risk of a nuclear accident during the tragic war in Ukraine,” he added.
