The Paris-based World Organization for Animal Health said today that Algeria has detected an outbreak of H5N1 bird flu in a poultry farm in the north of the country.
The organization continued, citing a report from the Algerian health authorities, that the virus caused the death of 35,800 birds on a farm in the town of Medea, south of the capital, Algiers, while the remaining 1,700 birds were slaughtered.
