Algeria: Execution of 49 people for heinous murder

The Casablanca Criminal Court in the Algerian capital issued its verdicts in the case of the murder of the young Jamal Ben Ismail, and it ranged between execution and innocence.

The court sentenced 49 defendants to death, and 15 other defendants were convicted of 10 years in prison, while 17 people were acquitted.

The young man, Djamel Ben Ismail, was killed in a gruesome manner in the state of Tizi Ouzou, and his body was abused in a live broadcast on Facebook by crowds of people after he was falsely accused of setting fires in the Wednesday Night Earth area.

The Public Prosecution had demanded the issuance of death sentences against 74 defendants for their involvement in the crime of killing and burning the young man in August 2021.
