The United States announced Thursday in a statement that it had requested a public session of the United Nations Security Council on Monday on the crisis in Ukraine, due to the threat posed by Russia to international peace and security.

In the statement, US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield said, “More than 100,000 Russian soldiers are deployed on the Ukrainian border, and Russia is carrying out other destabilizing activities targeting Ukraine, which constitutes a clear threat to international peace and security and to the Charter of the United Nations.”
