Laurie Buckhout is a former Army colonel running as the GOP nominee against Democrat Rep. Don Davis in North Carolina’s 1st Congressional District. Buckhout accused Davis of being a “career politician” beholden to President Biden and Democratic policies that have negatively impacted the district. Buckhout, on the other hand, claims to be accountable only to the voters and constituents of eastern North Carolina. She criticized Davis for focusing solely on photo ops at the border and not taking concrete action to address issues like immigration and drug trafficking.

If elected, Buckhout aims to address issues such as poverty, border security, and the economy in the district. She highlighted concerns about crime, opioid use, and lack of accountability for illegal aliens among residents. Buckhout emphasized the importance of stopping the progressive agenda pushed by the Biden administration and believes Davis is complicit in these efforts. As a retired Army colonel with over 26 years of service, Buckhout is committed to standing up for her country and making a difference in politics.

Buckhout’s military background includes commanding an 800-person battalion task force during the initial spearhead attack into Iraq in 2003. After retiring from the Army, she started a strategic consulting and services group focusing on electronic warfare and cyberspace operations. Buckhout’s extensive military experience and commitment to duty have shaped her decision to run for office and make a difference in her community. She has received endorsements from local law enforcement officials and district attorneys who know her best in the community.

The North Carolina General Assembly recently adopted new congressional district boundaries, including additional counties in North Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, where Buckhout is running for office. The race has been ranked as a “Democrat Toss Up” by Cook Political Report, indicating a competitive contest. Buckhout’s campaign focuses on key issues such as border security, the economy, and crime, resonating with voters in the district. Her military service, dedication to duty, and commitment to representing the interests of constituents set her apart from her opponent, Don Davis, in the upcoming general election on November 5.
