Former US President Donald Trump announced that he would be “arrested” on Tuesday, calling on his supporters to demonstrate, in anticipation of the possibility of him being formally charged in the case of paying a sum of money to a porn star to buy her silence about an affair she allegedly had with him years ago.
Trump wrote in his account on his social platform, “Truth Social”: “The main Republican candidate and former President of the United States of America will be arrested on Tuesday. Pretend! Take back our country!”, referring to the “leakage” of information from the Manhattan Attorney General’s office. And if he is arrested or even charged, this will be a precedent for a former US president.
The investigation focuses on the $130,000 payment prior to the 2016 election to buy the silence of Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford. Although the payment of this sum is in itself legal, the New York Attorney General’s office treats it as a hidden donation, in violation of election finance laws.
By referring to “leaks” from the New York State Attorney General’s office in Manhattan, the former US president added impetus to rumors and rumors that a possible criminal indictment in the case of Stormy Daniels was issued by a grand jury, a citizen panel responsible for certifying the indictment. Trump described the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, an elected and Democratic judge, as “extremely corrupt and politicized.”
