The thriller “John Wick: Chapter 4” grossed $73.5 million and topped the North American box office, according to Agence France-Presse.
Analyst David A. Gross described these results as a “brilliant start”, stressing that each film in the John Wick series was able to outperform the previous part.
The film received international acclaim, as the Washington Post wrote in an article, “If only all action films were so good as this work.” However, some criticized the number of people who are killed during work events, amounting to 100 people.
The success of the film adaptation is largely due to director Chad Stahelski. “John Wick: Chapter 4”, starring Keanu Reeves, deals with the story of a professional killer who fights an international criminal group that includes members whose roles are Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgard and Laurence Fishburne.
In second place was the movie “Shazam! Fury of the Gods », which topped the box office last week, grossing only $9.7 million this weekend. Variety magazine described the result as “one of the worst results ever achieved by major Hollywood superhero films.” The work stars Zachary, Asher Angel and Adam Brody.
The horror movie “Scream 6”, produced by “Paramount” and “Spy Glass Media”, came third in the ranking, with revenues of $ 8.4 million. It stars Melissa Barrera, Gina Ortega and Skeet Ulrich.
As for the fourth place, the movie “Creed 3” came, collecting 8.37 million dollars. The work deals again with the story of Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo, who returns from retirement to have a highly anticipated confrontation with an old friend. It is the first film directed by Michael B. Jordan, who simultaneously performs the main role.
And the science fiction thriller “65” fell to fifth place, after it came fourth last week. The work, produced by Sony and Columbia Pictures and starring Adam Driver, grossed $3.3 million.
