A high-ranking Saudi official visit to the United States succeeded in establishing lines of investment and development partnerships in the space sector, including localizing specialized technologies and the manufacture of satellites and spacecraft, during bilateral meetings, the widest of their kind in the fields of the space sector, held between the two sides.
This came in the midst of the visit of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Space Authority, Eng. Abdullah Al-Sawaha, which he started a few days ago, to hold bilateral meetings with the CEOs of American space companies, with the aim of exchanging experiences and technologies and seeking to enhance the joint capabilities of the space sector.
The meetings came within the official visit of the engineer Al-Sawaha to the United States of America, where he met with major American companies specialized in the fields of technology, and held meetings with the founder and CEO of “Axiom” Michael Suffredini, and CEO of “Red Wire” Peter Canito, in the presence of the CEO In charge of the Saudi Space Authority, Dr. Muhammad bin Saud Al-Tamimi.
The meetings discussed several main axes related to exchanging experiences and technologies related to microgravity platforms, joint cooperation to localize the satellite industry, striving to enhance joint capabilities to discover space debris, and effective contribution to building advanced navigational systems.
The two Saudi officials, Al-Sawaha and Al-Tamimi, discussed investment and development opportunities; To enhance the role of the space sector in the Kingdom, during a meeting session held with Chief Operating Officer of ULA John Elbon, and Founder and CEO of Space Perspective Jane Poynter.
The discussions included strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of spacecraft launch services, building partnerships to contribute to the growth of the space tourism sector, exchanging experiences and technologies in the field of spacecraft manufacturing, expanding the activities of space perspectives to localize them inside Saudi Arabia, and enhancing the vital and important role of the space sector to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. ».
On the other hand, the Saudi delegation headed by Al-Sawaha, who is also the Minister of Communications and Information Technology in the Kingdom, visited the Kennedy Space Center of the US space agency “NASA”, where he was received by the Assistant Director of the Kennedy Space Center, Burton Summerfield; To discuss investment opportunities in establishing and managing space ports.
During this period, Saudi Arabia focuses on developing the space activities and economy sector, at a time when the Kingdom is aggressively investing in capacity building, digital, technical and research enablers that lead to the transformation into an innovation-based economy.
The focus of the current visit focused on strengthening joint relations and exchanging global practices in the field of space exploration, technology and related industries, and ways to enhance innovation and projects, transfer advanced technologies and localize them in the space sector.
Al-Sawaha met with Deputy National Security Adviser for Cyber ​​and Emerging Technology Anne Neuberger, a few days ago, in search of activating the development of cooperation in cybersecurity and emerging technologies, in addition to developing digital capabilities in the field of cybersecurity. During the tour, Al-Sawaha also met with Barbara Leaf, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Middle East and North Africa Affairs at the National Security Council, where they discussed cooperation in the areas of entrepreneurship and the development of sustainable and green technology.
