A security source told Agence France-Presse today (Tuesday) that the Greek police arrested, as part of the dismantling of a “terrorist network”, two Pakistani men, aged 29 and 27, on suspicion of planning to strike Israeli targets in central Athens.
The clarification of the security source came shortly after the Greek police announced in a statement “the dismantling of a terrorist network” and the arrest of two foreigners who were planning to “carry out strikes” from abroad.
According to the security source, these two Pakistanis are of Iranian origin.
“Following coordinated actions by the Greek police and the National Intelligence Service, a terrorist network that was planning from abroad to launch strikes against carefully selected targets on Greek soil was dismantled,” the police said in a statement.
She added that the detainees “chose their target, and began exploring the area and planning the attack,” noting that they “received final instructions” for implementation.
