The Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation said that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met, on Friday, with prominent leaders of the forces of the Tigray region, for the first time since the signing of the peace agreement after a two-year war.
The authority wrote on Twitter: “Prime Minister Abe and other officials met today with a delegation from the Tigray People’s Liberation Front and held discussions on progress in the peace process.”
And she added, “As a result, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed issued decisions related to increasing the number of flights, banking services, and other issues that would enhance confidence and facilitate the lives of civilians,” according to the “Reuters” news agency.
The Ethiopian government and the forces of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front signed agreements in November to permanently stop hostilities and end the fighting that has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced millions.
Today’s meeting is Abe’s first with senior officials from the northern Tigray region since the fighting broke out.
