After attack warnings: Turkey summons German ambassador

Because of warnings of attacks in Turkey, the government in Ankara has called in the German ambassador, among others. She accuses Germany and eight other countries of wanting to portray Turkey as unstable.

The government in Turkey has summoned the German ambassador because of recent warnings of possible terrorist attacks in the country. In addition, the diplomatic representatives of the United States, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Great Britain, Belgium, France and Italy have been invited to the Foreign Ministry in Ankara, diplomatic sources said.

Several foreign missions had previously warned of an increased risk of attacks in Turkey and closed some of their representations. The background to the warnings was apparently the desecration of the Koran in several countries.

Cavusoglu: Action serves “agenda of terrorist organizations”

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu made serious accusations against the foreign missions. “If you want to create the image that Turkey is unstable and that there is a risk of terrorism, then that is incompatible with friendship and partnership.”

Turkey was not informed, for example, who the danger emanated from and which places were specifically endangered. The ambassadors were “reminded” in the Foreign Ministry that such joint actions only serve the “insidious agenda of terrorist organizations”.

The Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu had previously described the warnings as the product of a foreign conspiracy. According to the state news agency Anadolu, he addressed the US ambassador and said: “Get your dirty hands off Turkey.”
