Pensions, live: Laurent Berger calls for “pausing” the reform; requisitions at the TotalEnergies refinery in Gonfreville

Laurent Berger calls for “pausing” pension reform to appease the country

The secretary general of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, condemned on RTL the degradations committed Thursday on the occasion of the ninth day of mobilization against the pension reform. “I find it appalling,” he said. “When we attack the symbols of the Republic, town hall, police station, we start to attack each other”, he lamented, especially since this violence “overshadow the substance of the subject”.

“I don’t believe at all” that the social movement is in the process of escaping the unions, he specified, underlining the large crowd in the peaceful processions.

“I call for appeasement, and how do we find him? I propose that there is a time for listening, for dialogue, that we put the pension reform on hold”, did he declare. According to him, by reforming the pension system before revising working conditions, “We put the cart before the horse”. “We have to calm things down now, before there is a tragedy”, he added.

According to him, it should have “dealing with social conflict well in advance”. “The exit door, you can only find it collectively”, he said to the government.
