Why the GoPro HERO11 is a must-have for your next big adventure outdoors

To celebrate the release of GoPro’s HERO11 Black Mini, was invited to the Blue Mountains to put the HERO11 family to the test.

The trip involved testing the HERO11’s capabilities in extreme environments including off-road biking to Blackheath’s hanging rock with Blue Mountains Biking Adventures, canyoning and abseiling along the Valley of the Waters Creek in Katoomba with Blue Mountains adventure company, and taking on Scenic World’s Beyond Skyway experience.

The HERO11 Black Mini embraces simplicity and filming innovation with its one-button control, compact size, and dual mounting fingers for versatile mounting, all while maintaining the filming and photo specs of the HERO11. The HERO11 Black Mini is highly suited to athletes and innovators looking for that unique filming angle that you cannot quite grab with large cameras.

HyperSmooth 5.0 technology:

The Hypersmooth technology was really tested when off-road biking to Blackheath’s hanging rock. The trail was incredibly bumpy and had some jarring twists and turns to it, however, the camera’s stability and smoothness did an excellent job with GoPro’s chest mount. The horizon lock feature also maintained the point-of-view composition when riding along the rough terrain.

Canyoning and abseiling through the Valley of the Waters Creek really put the camera to the test when it comes to durability. The camera maintained footage performance even after suffering large impacts from water jumps and surface encounters with dirt and rock. The camera’s robust construction allows you to take it into more extreme situations and still capture quality visuals.

Ease of use on the road:

The transfer of footage and images with the HERO11 family is very quick and easy with GoPro’s Quik app. You can even edit footage straight out of the app itself for social media transfers, making quick trip updates extremely easy. However, given phone screen size, it’s not ideal for larger project editing.

Star Trail feature:

GoPro’s new Star Trail feature with the HERO11 makes it incredibly easy to take footage at night, something that I believe will be of value for travellers wanting to capture quick and unique night sky shots. Although you cannot compare quality with larger sensor cameras, the trail feature fills in all the work required for post-image stacking which is ideal for travelling content or supplementary to filming shoots when time is against you. The click-and-point feature with some slight adjustments to settings will allow even beginners to take unique star trails shots.

What we think

The HERO11 and HERO11 mini combo proved to be useful tools for capturing quick moments in environments where you cannot bring a larger sensor camera. GoPro’s HERO11 and HERO11 mini are tool’s of convenience as both embrace portability, durability and simplicity with captures, all of which allow users to focus more on the sport or situation at hand.
