Tragic update on young woman left in coma after nightmare car crash

A young woman has died more than two months after a serious car accident left her fighting for life in an induced coma.

Macy Edwards, 22, was driving from a tour guide training course in Launceston on March 28 when she was involved in a car crash.

She sustained trauma to her brain and heart and broken ribs, pelvis and collarbone, and was placed in an induced coma.

A fundraiser was set up for the Edwards, who organiser Allie House described as “a larrikin who is full of life”.

“Macy, just like her family, is a truly people- and community-oriented soul,” House wrote.

On Friday, House revealed Edwards had died the previous day.

“Unfortunately, the extent and permanence of Macy’s brain injuries were unrecoverable and yesterday Heaven inherited the most joy-filled soul it will ever have,” she wrote in an update on the GoFundMe page.

House said Edwards was surrounded by her family when she died.

“Words cannot ease the pain we know this will cause many of you,” she wrote.

“I can only encourage you with the faith that Macy is now free and forever 22 — her life was full of adventure, laughs and vibrance, and that will remain her legacy.”

More than $60,000 had been raised for Edwards and her family.
