The unusual cleaning trick has received widespread acclaim in recent weeks, with thousands revealing how it removed black scum and build-up from around their bathroom taps.
Now the home owner says it also works on bathroom drains, with almost no scrubbing at all.
“Am loving the tomato sauce cleaning tip,” she wrote on the Cleaning & Organising Inspiration Australia page.
“I had tried lots of products with this but nothing worked, today I tried it with tomato sauce and it really did the job.
“Here are before and after photos of this bathroom drain.”
The home owner went on to reveal how she used “standard Masterfoods tomato sauce” on the drains, leaving it for an hour or so before wiping it clean.
She said she only needed to use a scourer on a “tiny section”, with the rest of the build-up coming off easily.
Many were blown away by the hack, surprised that the popular condiment could fix this common problem.
“Wow, I always thought that was where the chrome plating had come off! I’ll have to give it a try,” said one.
Another added: “Wait, what!? WOW.’
A third said: “Great result! And no exposure to chemicals either, good job.”
Said one more: “What the actual!? No way. I thought mine was done for. Like it actually looks like the silver had come off.”
Wrote another: “Trying this tomorrow. My drain at my sink went like this from having the mat on it and thought it was stripped from the moisture.”
Others were excited to see that the tomato sauce hack could be used on other common cleaning problems.
“Waiting for the tomato sauce shortage,” responded one.
Another said: “And to think we EAT IT!”
A third wrote: “Runs to the kitchen cupboard to get the tomato sauce out!”
Added one more: “Wow. Who knew?”
How to clean your drains with tomato sauce
- Squirt a generous amount of tomato sauce over the drain area.
- Leave it to rest for one to two hours.
- Wipe away the tomato sauce with a cloth and wash area. More stubborn marks may require a light scour.
NB: The home owner in this Facebook post removed her drain and placed it in a bowl with tomato sauce before cleaning it. However the hack does work without doing this step.
