Police officer suffers broken nose during violent arrest at QLD shopping centre

A police officer has been left bloodied after being punched in the face at a Queensland shopping centre.

The constable was patrolling Stocklands Shopping Centre in Townsville on Thursday evening when she and a colleague attempted to restrain a man.

During the struggle, the man allegedly struck the officer.

He allegedly broke her nose and left her with a possible concussion.

The officer, who’s aged in her 30s, was taken to Townsville University Hospital but has since been released.

“That officer has since been released and is back at home, so we’ll provide appropriate care and support to make sure she recovers from this incident as quickly as possible,” said Superintendent Chris Lawson said.

The man was arrested before being taken to hospital.

He is now being dealt with under the Mental Health Act.

Charges are yet to be laid.
