OJ Simpson’s body was cremated with no public memorial service planned. His attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, confirmed that the cremation took place at Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas and Simpson’s ashes will be given to his children. The family declined requests from scientists to study Simpson’s brain for Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, as he battled prostate cancer before passing away on April 10.

LaVergne mentioned that he visited Simpson shortly before Easter, where he appeared alert and sitting on a couch, but his condition rapidly deteriorated. Simpson’s family announced his passing on April 11 and requested privacy. LaVergne expressed the challenges faced by Simpson’s children being in the public eye due to their father’s fame and controversy. Simpson’s estate is to be divided among his two children from his first marriage and two children with Nicole Brown Simpson.

The attorney is focused on determining the value of Simpson’s assets, aiming to ensure that the family of Ron Goldman, the waiter and friend of Nicole Brown Simpson who was killed alongside her, does not receive any proceeds from Simpson’s estate. Simpson was acquitted of their murders but found liable in a civil case. LaVergne stated his intention to prevent the Goldmans from receiving any payment, arguing that Simpson’s assets will not cover his potential debts.

LaVergne estimated Simpson’s debt to be around $200 million, a sum far exceeding the value of his assets. He plans to work with representatives from the Goldman and Brown families to assess the estate’s assets and debts. The attorney is determined to protect Simpson’s family’s interests while ensuring that the Goldmans do not benefit from any proceeds. Despite Simpson’s complicated legal history, LaVergne aims to handle his estate responsibly, in accordance with his wishes and legal obligations.
