“We’ve got 10 out of 10, and an all clear to get on the next plane,” Barnes wrote, revealing that he and wife Jane were heading to Thailand.

“Land of Smiles here we come.

“The kids will look after the veggies, roses and geese.

“Our next phase of physio will be in a pool by the Gulf of Siam.

“Luckiest man in the world right now.”

Barnes went on to thank his doctor, John Rooney, writing: “Your work is immaculate.”

Barnes then posted from the airport, showing a picture of him and Jane preparing to fly.

“We’re through all the rigmarole of check in and customs, ready to board,” he wrote.

“Thanks for cheering me on, so much positivity has definitely helped.

“I still have to take it easy, hip op recovery is a long process.

“I’ll be working on my book, writing new music between physio work in the pool.

“My Jane planning all the food. We’ll send plenty of photos.”

Fans flocked to the comments section of both posts to wish the pair safe travels and express their happiness that Barnes was on the mend.

“Doing so well Jimmy and looking good too. So glad nurse Jane is looking after you and doing a wonderful job too,” one fan wrote.

“That’s great news … Well done and best wishes to you both for a safe and enjoyable holiday, and unlimited creative energy flow. Love,” wrote another.

“This is awesome news, Jimmy!” added a third.

“So happy your surgery has been successful and now you can get back to doing what you love most.

“Be safe and take care.”

In a message to fans, he said his non-stop performances for close to 50 years had “finally caught up with me”.

“I’ve had niggling back and hip issues for years, but things suddenly got a lot worse over the last few weeks and I’m now in constant and severe pain,” he said.

“As everybody knows, it’s against my religion to blow out gigs but the doctors tell me I need an operation as soon as possible and it will really limit my movement for a few months.

“As much as it kills me to inconvenience everyone, I have to get this fixed so I can jump around onstage for another 50 years.”

After his surgery, Barnes’ daughter Elly May posted a picture of him recovering in hospital, saying the surgery had gone well.

“Hey everyone it’s @ellymaybarnes, my dadda is out of surgery and awake,” she wrote.

“The doctors are very happy … Thanks for all the well wishes.”

Speaking to Sunrise in early December, Barnes said he was not sure how long he would be out of action.

“Probably a minimum of four months but I’ll probably just take six months off,” he said.

Barnes, who described himself as “one of those people that doesn’t sit still”, said that for his last surgery he had returned to performing with the minimum recovery time – and it led him back to the hospital.

“When I had open-heart surgery they told me ‘after eight weeks you’ll feel good, but you have to take 12 (weeks off)’,” he recalled.

“After eight weeks, I did a show – and I was back in hospital again.

“I’m one of those people that doesn’t sit still and doesn’t take other people’s advice – so (this time) I’m going to try.”
