Desperate rescue operation after crane operator falls from cabin


A man was trapped several storeys high in the tower of a crane after falling from the machine’s cabin on Wednesday morning in Alphington, Melbourne.

The man, believed to be the crane’s operator, fell from the cabin at about 7.30am on Wednesday morning.

According to Ambulance Victoria (AV), the man received lower body injuries in the fall.

“Paramedics are currently on the scene. A high angle rescue is underway,” AV said in a statement.

A spokesperson from Fire Rescue Victoria said firefighters had administered “an emergency medical response” and have “ensured that the patient was safe until he can be transferred into the care of Ambulance Victoria”.

Ariel shots show the man trapped in the crane’s metal tower, assisted by several emergency workers, who are trying to attach him to a stretcher.
