Carlton’s unbeaten start to the AFL season has been ended after their worst first quarter in eight years, conceding eight goals to a rampant Adelaide side that never let up in a 56-point win.
The Crows toasted the Gather Round opener with an 18.10 (118) to 9.8 (62) win over the Blues in front of 47,365 fans at Adelaide Oval.
The party well and truly kicked off when the home side kicked two majors in the first three minutes, and Carlton were always playing catch-up from there.

The Blues had not conceded eight goals in a first quarter since round 21, 2013.
Worryingly, they were well and truly beaten in the contest despite the impressive return of Sam Walsh.
Adelaide’s Rory Laird led the way with 37 disposals, 18 contested possessions and 13 score involvements while Jordan Dawson’s fine kicking broke the game open.
“He’s a freak,” Taylor Walker told Channel 7 of Dawson.
“He oozes leadership. What you see is what you get – he sees the game really well. He’ll tell you right and wrong.
“He performs every single week. That’s exactly what we want from our skipper.”
