Callous thieves steal mountain bikes donated to children in town hit by floods

More than two dozen mountain bikes donated to Victorian school children affected by last year’s floods have been stolen.

Victoria Police said 30 mountain bikes and helmets, valued at a total of $21,000, were stolen from Rochester Secondary College in the state’s north.

Variety The Children’s Charity donated the bikes to the College in April, and they were kept in the school’s storage shed.

Police believe the bikes, all from the brand Fluid, were taken some time between May 24 and June 2.

In a Facebook post, a spokesperson for the school said the students were preparing to use the bikes, before finding out they were stolen.

“We are so disappointed,” the Rochester Secondary College spokesperson said.

“Please, if you know anything or have seen them anywhere, let us know. Our students deserve better.”

The Rochester community was among a number of regional Victorian towns devastated by floods in October 2022.

It was estimated more than 90 per cent of the town’s homes were damaged.
