McKenna Kindred, a 25-year-old high school teacher from Washington State, was sentenced to two years of probation for having sex with a 17-year-old student at her house while her husband was away on a hunting trip. Initially charged with first-degree sexual misconduct, she pleaded guilty to amended charges of second-degree sexual misconduct with a minor and communication with a minor for immoral purposes in a plea deal with prosecutors. She received no jail time, but was ordered to pay fines, fees, and register as a sex offender for 10 years.

In court, Kindred expressed remorse for her actions, acknowledging the impact they had on her life and the lives of others. The abuse came to light in December 2022 when students reported to school officials that they believed Kindred was having an inappropriate relationship with the 17-year-old student. Evidence of their relationship was gathered from messages exchanged on Instagram, with one message implying that they had almost been caught engaging in inappropriate behavior. Kindred also reported being harassed online by someone accusing her of inappropriate relationships with students.

During the investigation, a student revealed that Kindred had invited the 17-year-old boy to her house while her husband was away. The boy’s mother confirmed that her son had a sexual relationship with Kindred, which began through communication on Instagram. The boy admitted to authorities that they had engaged in sexual activity at her house. In court, the boy’s mother described Kindred’s behavior as predatory and an abuse of power, stating that Kindred had groomed him when he was 16 years old.

Kindred resigned from her position as a teacher following the allegations and has been out on bond since her arrest. Her attorney was not available for immediate comment on the case. The case highlights the serious consequences of engaging in inappropriate relationships with students as a teacher and the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries and behaviors in educational settings. It also serves as a reminder of the lasting impact that sexual abuse can have on victims and their families.
