Jazlyn Guerra, a 13-year-old reporter from Brooklyn, has garnered significant attention on YouTube by interviewing celebrities such as Jay Z, Cardi B, and Michelle Obama for her channel “Jazzys World TV”. Her biggest story yet was scoring the first interview with North West, the 10-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, who recognized her at the Rolling Loud music festival in Los Angeles. Despite asking Kim for permission, North became the latest big booking for Jazzy’s channel, and Kim complimented her on her work and craft.

Jazzy started interviewing celebrities at age 9 in 2020 when her father, Luis De Hoyos, took her to meet and greets in New York with a karaoke mic and an iPad. Guerra’s first interview with opposing team’s head coach Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs at a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden solidified her desire to become a reporter. She and her father would attend events early in the morning to snag interviews before she went to school. Alicia Keys offered her encouragement, and after much persistence, Jay Z shared insight about confidence and persistence with her.

With 683,000 YouTube subscribers, 1 million Instagram followers, and 1.3 million TikTok followers, Guerra has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry. She challenged Cardi B about which borough has the best chopped cheese sandwich and quizzed Michelle Obama about skills kids from marginalized communities need to succeed. Jazzy also interviewed Shaquille O’Neal twice and enjoys hanging out in her local neighborhood park in Bushwick and listening to music from artists like Nicki Minaj and Jay Z. She is still getting used to being recognized in public, but finds the experience fun.

Jazlyn Guerra got her start as a reporter at just 9 years old, accompanying her father to meet and greets with celebrities and athletes in New York. Her first interview with Gregg Popovich at a Knicks game solidified her desire to pursue a career in reporting. Despite early nerves, Guerra found joy in having conversations with interviewees and continued to pursue opportunities to speak with celebrities. With the guidance of her father and words of encouragement from Alicia Keys and Jay Z, Jazzy learned the importance of persistence, confidence, and believing in oneself.

Meeting North West at the Rolling Loud music festival led to Jazlyn’s biggest scoop yet – the first interview with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s daughter. North recognized Jazzy and gave her permission to interview her, setting the stage for the young reporter’s continued success. Jazzy’s unique approach to interviewing, including asking challenging questions and seeking advice from influential figures, has helped her attract a large following on social media. Despite her rapid rise to fame, Jazzy remains grounded and continues to enjoy spending time in her local community and pursuing her passion for journalism.
