Walmart has agreed to pay back its customers for allegedly overcharging them for certain items, such as “weighted goods” and “bagged citrus,” between Oct. 19, 2018, and Jan. 19, 2024. The $45 million settlement of a class action lawsuit claims that Walmart’s point-of-sale machines raised the weight of goods marked at a discounted price, resulting in customers paying more than the advertised price. Additionally, bagged produce was allegedly promoted to weigh more than the actual weight, and clearance products with reduced prices displayed discrepancies in the price per pound. Walmart denies any wrongdoing and settled to avoid trial. Customers who purchased these items during the specified time frame may be eligible to submit a claim.

To be eligible to submit a claim, customers must have purchased “weighted goods” or “bagged citrus” from Walmart between Oct. 19, 2018, and Jan. 19, 2024. Retaining receipts is not necessary for eligibility. Depending on the number of items purchased, customers can claim varying amounts from the settlement. The claims process can be completed online or by mailing a claim form to the specified address. Claims must be postmarked by June 5, 2024, to receive payment. If the total amount of claims exceeds the settlement amount, payments may be decreased.

The amount of money customers can receive from Walmart’s settlement varies based on the number of items purchased. Customers who bought between 1 to 50 items can claim $10, those who bought between 51 to 75 items can claim $15, between 76 to 100 items can claim $20, and over 101 items can claim $25. Those who kept their Walmart receipts can claim 2% of the total cost of the items purchased, up to a limit of $500. Payments will be distributed after the final approval hearing on June 16, 2024, although delays may occur due to appeals.

If you believe you are eligible to submit a claim for Walmart’s settlement, you can file online through the settlement website or by mailing a claim form to the specified address. The deadline for submitting claims is June 5, 2024, to receive payment. A final approval hearing is scheduled for June 16, 2024, after which eligible payments will be distributed. Any updates on the settlement process will be provided as new information becomes available. For ongoing settlements, customers can also learn about Verizon’s recent settlement.
