Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are embroiled in a legal battle over the French winery they once owned together. New legal documents have surfaced alleging a history of physical abuse of Jolie by Pitt before their 2016 plane ride. Jolie claims that she tried to sell Pitt her stake in the winery, but negotiations broke down when Pitt demanded she sign a non-disclosure agreement that prohibited her from speaking about his abuse of her and their children.

The latest filing comes after Pitt sued Jolie in 2022, alleging that she sold her stake in the winery vindictively following an adverse custody ruling. Jolie claims in her motion that Pitt’s alleged abuse started before the 2016 plane incident, but does not elaborate further. She also alleges that Pitt blew up the deal to purchase her stake in the winery after she refused to sign his NDA, which she claims was limited to not disparaging the winery’s business.

Pitt’s representatives have not yet commented on the new allegations outlined in Jolie’s filing. Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, stated that Pitt’s refusal to purchase her stake and subsequent lawsuit bring into question the importance of the NDA and what it was meant to conceal. Jolie chose not to press charges against Pitt after the 2016 incident, believing that he should accept responsibility and help the family recover from the post-traumatic stress.

In October 2021, Jolie sold her share of the winery to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of Stoli Group controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. The ongoing legal battles and Pitt’s actions are said to be taking an emotional and financial toll on Jolie and their family. Despite their differences, Jolie hopes for healing for their family and the children and wishes the same for Pitt.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt in 2016, and they were declared legally single in 2019. A joint custody arrangement was established in 2021. The dispute over the Miraval winery remains ongoing, with the former couple having purchased the property in the south of France in 2008. The legal battles and conflicts between Jolie and Pitt continue to escalate, bringing old wounds to the surface and prolonging the emotional strain on both parties.
