Derek Jeter, the former New York Yankees legend, has finally found a buyer for his four-acre lakefront compound in Orange County, N.Y., after years of being on the market. The property, known as Tiedemann Castle, went into contract in May at a reduced asking price of $6.3 million, down from its original listing price of over $14 million. The estate features a main house, guesthouse, pool house, and boat house, totaling over 12,500 square feet with six bedrooms and 13 bathrooms.

Built over a century ago, Tiedemann Castle boasts luxurious amenities such as multiple kitchens, a lagoon, an infinity pool shaped like a baseball diamond, a game room, and turrets, giving it a medieval castle-like appearance. Mr. Jeter purchased the property during the peak of his baseball career and listed it for sale in 2018. Despite an unsuccessful auction in 2022, the property has finally attracted a buyer, with the pending sale coming as a relief to the listing agent, Diane Mitchell of Wright Brothers Real Estate.

In addition to selling his N.Y. property, Jeter has been reshaping his real estate portfolio in recent years. He listed his 30,875-square-foot mansion in Tampa for $29 million in 2020, which sold for $22.5 million the following year, becoming the region’s most expensive home sale at that time. The Tampa Bay Times reported that the mansion would be demolished and rebuilt. The village of Greenwood Lake, where Tiedemann Castle is located, has a median listing price of $475,000, according to Realtor.com.

The Greenwood Lake property holds sentimental value for Jeter, whose grandfather was the adopted son of the previous owners, John and Julia Tiedemann. Jeter spent summers at the estate during his childhood, seeking a game of catch rather than a swim, according to Ian O’Connor’s book, “The Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter.” The property’s sale marks the end of an era for Jeter, who has been divesting from his real estate holdings to streamline his investments.

With the pending sale of Tiedemann Castle, Derek Jeter can finally close the chapter on his real estate ventures in Orange County, N.Y. After years of trying to find a buyer for the lavish lakefront estate at a reduced price, Jeter has succeeded in attracting interest and securing a pending sale. The property’s history and sentimental value to Jeter, combined with its luxurious amenities and medieval castle-like appearance, make it a unique and coveted piece of real estate that will soon transition to new ownership.
