Last week, four new Netflix original movies made their way into the top 10 most popular titles on the streaming platform. One of these films, “Scoop,” is a dramatization of the true story behind Prince Andrew’s infamous 2019 BBC interview about Jeffrey Epstein. Despite being filled with older movies that made their most-watched chart debuts, these new additions have introduced a fresh wave of excitement to Netflix viewers.

“Heart of the Hunter,” which premiered on Netflix on March 29, remained the most-watched film for the second week in a row with 10.9 million views. “Damsel,” a Millie Bobby Brown fantasy story, also secured a spot in the top 10, coming in at number 7. The other eight movies that rounded out the top 10 were newcomers to the chart, marking the highest number of films to debut on the list in a single week since at least the start of 2023.

Two of the new additions earning top spots were Netflix original films. “The Beautiful Game,” a sports drama featuring Bill Nighy, secured the 5th spot, while “Scoop” followed closely behind at number 6. The remaining films that entered the chart were older movies that have suddenly gained popularity. Many of these older films were added to Netflix on April 1, including titles like “The Little Things,” “Glass,” and “Baby Driver,” all of which now hold spots on the most-watched list.

A surprising fact revealed that “Glass” is the final movie in a trilogy by M. Night Shyamalan, but only two of the three films are available on Netflix. The thriller series, which includes “Unbreakable,” “Split,” and “Glass,” has only the latter two available for streaming. Additionally, “The Maze Runner” and its sequel “The Scorch Trials,” were added to Netflix on April 1 but are only accessible to viewers in the United Kingdom, with the third film “The Death Cure” still unavailable.

One unexpected addition to the top 10 most popular films of the week was the 2010 movie “Letters to God,” based on the true story of an 8-year-old cancer patient who writes letters to God during his treatment. This critically panned film managed to secure the 10th spot on the list, showing a diverse range of viewer interests on Netflix. Overall, the influx of new and older films on the streaming platform has provided audiences with a variety of options to enjoy.

The release of “Scoop” on April 5 marked a highly anticipated event, garnering significant viewer attention with 5.8 million views within the first three days. The film delves into the behind-the-scenes story of the BBC News team that conducted the now-famous interview with Prince Andrew regarding his connection to Jeffrey Epstein. Following the controversial interview, Prince Andrew stepped back from his royal duties and resigned from all public roles. With an impressive 77% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, “Scoop” has garnered praise for its portrayal of the events surrounding the Epstein scandal.
